In 2002 Hobby Japan started to create their own series of life counters using the already well-known spinning wheel design. For each expert level set starting with Odyssey, two life counters were produced, featuring images of popular Magic cards taken from the respective sets. Additionally, creature-based theme sets of five life counters were released, again featuring popular artwork of the appropriate creature cards. The Shichifukujin Dragon life counter is not part of any set. It was released as a limited edition independant product to honor the famous Shichifukujin Dragon which is part of the Japanese culture. This mythical beast also exists as a Magic card. Hobby Japan cancelled their life counter production in 2003.
