The Junior Super Series is a tournament environment dedicated to younger Magic players. Starting in December each year, hundreds of Challenges take place all over the USA and Canada, where all people with an age of 15 and under can participate. During these challenges, special promotional cards are given out. The first and second winners of a Challenge may participate in the Junior Super Series Championship which takes place once a year, but they are prohibited from participating in another Challenge that season.

An equivalent tounament environment, called Japan Junior Tournament, has been launched in Japan in July 2002. Starting with the 2003 season in July 2003, special Japanese prize cards were awarded.

Sometimes, additional promotional items are given out at the Junior Super Series Championships. Once, this has been a bag filled with tokens. Another time, it has been a specially designed life counter.

Due to sorting error, the promotional cards Serra Avatar and Thran Quarry were additionally distributed in English Urza's Destiny booster packs in place of uncommon cards.
