In 2001 Wizards of the Coast produced a life counter for promotional issues. Using the well-known wheel design counting up to 30 and featuring the art of the Odyssey card Pilgrim of Justice, it was sent to all European Magic distributors who handed out the life counter at stores and conventions for free.

On the 26th of July in 2003, Magic has had its tenth anniversary. In order to commemorate the event, a special tenth anniversary life counter was handed out at the Scourge prerelease tournaments. The life counter can count up to 30 and uses a wheel to select the desired amount of life points.
