[eBay] Warning: P9 Artist Proofs with FAKE sigs
« on: Apr 1st, 2005, 10:56pm »
Quote Quote Modify Modify

Hello everybody,

First of all, I am still alive (if any of you wonders what I am becoming ...). Just completely swamped into an exhausting work project.

Second, this post aims at relaying a warning that Ed, aka notsofasteddie (member), mentioned me this afternoon. So a very special thanks to Ed for keeping his eyes opened.

So here's the big deal. There's this guy currently selling signed P9 APs on eBay:
http://search.ebay.com/_W0QQsassZjunsan00

Ed noticed that the signatures on the APs were more than suspicious. After a close look, I conclude that, effectively, they looked fake.
I have sent an e-mail to Amy Weber and Christopher Rush. Amy immediately answered and confirmed that "her" sig on the Time Walk AP was a fake. She has contacted the seller.

Just wanted to warn current and potentially future bidders from this forum.

Regards,
Eric.

Indeed the Chris Rush signature looks nothing like Chris Rush's signature.

The Frazier ones are BAD too. Poole's and Tedin's look better mainly because they are much more simpler ...

Indeed I'm not commenting on any of those three, as Rush is the only one whose cards I actually have signed.  Signature can change over time, but not like that.

Matt, you can have a look at Christopher Rush's answer to my e-mail, received while I was writing the initial topic ...

Hello Eric,
That is most certainly a forgery of my signature.
What is also interesting, is that he has a beta proof
that he would have to forge a signature on. I'm not in
the habit of giving or selling proofs without
signatures on them for that very reason.
Someone worked hard to make the signature look
authentic, but there are too many variations from the
way I personally write it. The signature was written
by someone who is right-handed, while I am left
handed.
There is a small posiblility that the proof itself is
authentic, but it too could be a fake.
Christopher

You guessed right Wink

Eric.

They're so ridiculously evident fakes that they're not even a good try

I can forge sigs much better than that (but don't tell anybody)  Wink

I wondered about the sig and placed a lets  "watch it " bid.
I often do that. but I retracted as I think that it was a little high in the end Smiley

Of course, even with fake sigs, they still look like APs ... and I have seen people paying more than $50 for P9 proxies ... So a let's watch it bid which ends being a winning bid is not that bad.

Ok, the guy has retracted his P9 APs auctions but has listed new auctions for APs from Mark Tedin and Anson Maddocks.

What do you guys think about the sigs on these ones?

Eric.

I have EXTREME doubts about the authenticity of the Tedin sigs.  They have the "forced" look, like someone was trying to write the name. Totally missing the natural flow and rhythm that you get when you write your own name over time.
I wouldn't and won't go near them.
