Take a look:
http://www.pokeorder.com/magascbox.html
They have these for Legions and 8th Edition too. Are they some kind of custom-made thing? Or are there other places selling these?

Its a standard packaging option. See it a lot in small stores, like 7-11 in the US.

Now what's scary is that they're selling the "Hunter Sliver promo" for only $4! Is it just me, or are they referring to the Hunter Sliver given out before the release of Legions and identical to the one in the set?

bigfatkitty,
I have not seen any of these, ever. And just before Christmas I went card shop traveling Visited roughly 7 places that sell MTG, didn't see any that had these.
Maybe west coast thing or something who knows.

Yeah, I didn't mention that to not draw attention to their dumbness. One local card store had a couple hundred of those slivers and would give away handfuls to any customer that wanted them.

did they come in some sort of distinctive packaging? Maybe like the "packs" of arena lands, or the "deck" of mana crypts.

Just an update for anyone who cares... I found one of these boxes in a local store. The salesguy said it was for Prophecy so apparently they've been made for quite a while. I couldn't tell it was from Prophecy but he seemed sure of himself, maybe there was a sticker on it or something that I didn't notice.

They have those here in Memphis, TN.
I've seen them at the Citgo across the street from where I work. I think it was Legions and Scourge that they had... Maybe Onslaught, can't remember.

At the pre-release alot of people forgot to bring land, and so did the organiser. So they had hunter slivers with U G W B R written of them that counted as lands. I believe they had a couple of thousand.

Are these box sets official WotC products? If they are, I would like to add them to Magic Card Sets. In other words, I need to know on which langauges they exist and which product code they bear.

on the subject of new / odd boxes...
my local grocery store sells "cases" that contain two packs - mirrodion and onslaught. stronghold used to be sold in similar "cases", as well, but the images i had of them have since been deleted (or atleast i think they have).

Strangely enough locally we have (besides Wal Mart) Jewel/Osco (the Albertson's chain locally in the midwest) and they have someone who stocks a spinner rack with magic boosters. Only $3.99 each!

Ralph: These boxes are just smaller packaging options for retailers who normally do not carry M:TG product in scale. So instead of buying a full standard booster box of 36 packs, there are smaller 12 count boxes are for stores who wish to order some. This allows places like your convenience stores or mass merchandisers to carry product. Problem is, these places charge full retail, if not more for price. Not much product moves as a result.
I have seen these for a long time now (don't recall), but I think tracking product codes will be a challenge since your typical stores people like us deal with do not carry these items as they typically buy by the full box or case for that matter. You also won't see these sitting in boxes. Typically they are removed and put into some other display case or display spinner. I have also seen product sealed by booster into cardboard with plastic covers by the single pack. squt brought some of these to a tourney we drafted in recently.
